Summer is here! My kids are home and and we are trying to make the best out of each and every day. Lately my kids have been obsessed with making icees. My husband bought an icee machine for them and they love it. However I have a healthier icee option they also love and wanted to share it for you all here. It takes a little extra work but is honestly so easy with only a few ingredients. These citrus icees are perfect for hot summer days and will definitely be a crowd pleaser, keep scrolling to see!

Ingredients

Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice – I use around 4 or 5 large oranges
Juicer – Mine is handheld like this
Water
Sugar

Step 1

First you need to make a simple syrup which like it says, is very simple! Simply take water and sugar and add to a pot and put it on the stovetop. Stir this combination on medium/high heat till it comes to a boil. This could take 5 or 10 minutes. Once it’s come to a boil, continue to let it boil for another 5 minutes or so while stirring. Next, turn off the heat, transfer to another container and put it in the freezer to cool. You just made simple syrup!

Step 2

Second, you juice your oranges! There are much fancier juicers but I use my hand held one. I took about 4 or 5 large navel oranges however I’ve used blood oranges as well and the results were yummy! The more oranges you juice the more flavorful it is. I used about 1 1/12 cups of juice for this.

Step 3

After your simply syrup has cooled combine the juice and the syrup and stir together. You’ll need to store it in the freezer in a container, I use a loaf pan like this. Take it out every 30 minutes to stir, after 3 or 4 hours it should be nice and ready!

Step 4

Finally, enjoy this tasty treat!! I like to core the oranges and add the icee mixture inside as a pretty presentation, plus my kids love it! We’ve done this recipe with lemons as well and it’s very yummy! Hope you enjoy making and eating these all summer long!
