Throwing a birthday party is stressful in itself. From creating a theme, tablescape design, to what food + desserts should I do? What are the kids gonna do as activities? How can I throw on a full-styled party together on a budget? These are all valid questions any parent asks themselves. We ask ourselves those same questions when our kid’s birthdays roll around each year. Parties are damn expensive! We have learned through the years that there is always a way to make it work on any budget and time. Today, it’s all about the birthday cake! You don’t want to break the bank on a professional cake, but you also don’t want a store-bought sheet cake from Costco. With a little creativity, and planning you can create a cake that looks like you got it from a professional!

1st, let’s do the vinyl shapes. I used my vinyl cutter and cut-out various sizes of circles and stars on iridescent vinyl. If you don’t have a vinyl cutter at home, you check on Etsy, or you can use these stars I found on Amazon. Glitter star confetti is also a great option! For the circles, you can try these and just cut off the garland. Amazon has some great options if you don’t have a vinyl cutter at home.
Once you have all your shapes ready to go, then assemble. I just made an upward pattern on the side of the cake. Speaking of cake, I just got mine at Whole Foods. I took off the fruit and covered those spots up with the decor. Proper Letter did the cutest galaxy-inspired cake topper; see her Etsy page here. I stuck those right in the middle. I then took a piece of the vinyl paper and took off the backing, revealing the sticky part. I crumpled it up like how you do with paper you are throwing away. It created this look of a meteor-type shape. Add in some color with some foam circles. I had these laying around the playroom. Lastly, I took pink cotton candy and placed it in areas to look at fluffy clouds.
There you have it! Easy and affordable, you can’t beat that!
