A Floral 4th Of July Cake

By June 26, 2023 No Comments

Let them have cake! With the 4th creeping up on us in a matter of a week, it’s time to get all our ducks in a row. And dessert is a big one for us! A sweet treat that all ages love. This fun floral number is super easy to make and can be done the day of or the day before. It consists of a box of white cake mix and strawberry meringue powder mix for the lettering details. Just add flowers right before serving. If you want to get super crazy and fun, add sparklers to really ring in the 4th. I will tell you a little secret too, with boxed cake, you can even have your kids make the mix for you while you create your meringue numbers and letters. This is one fun and easy family-friendly dessert that you can whip up in no time!

Let’s do this! Start by making the cakes. I used an 8-inch and 6-inch cake pans. Each cake box will make two pans so you will have 4 cakes to play with. Once cooled, using a cake leveler or a knife, cut the cakes into two or three layers each.

Making the meringue is really simple using this mix. Just follow the recipe on the back. It’s just adding water to the mix and using your stand mixer. Mix until stiff peaks.

Stuff the meringue into the piping bags. Write a “4” and “July” on a baking sheet. I did it a couple of times to get the font I liked. Throw in the oven at 325, and start your timer for 45 min. After that time, turn off the oven and start another timer for an hour and keep it in the oven. Don’t open the oven! Once, that final hour has passed, you can take it out of the oven.

Time to arrange the cake! Take your cake layers and meringue. Let’s do cake, meringue, cake, meringue, etc. Once you have all your layers, throw them into the ice box. Do you remember when people said “ice box”? Haha. Put into the fridge to chill and become one cake.
Once chilled, and ready to serve, add your flowers. Deocreate with any type of flower you have access to. All of mine were from the backyard. If you don’t have any, Trader Joe’s has a really fun selection. But any will do!

And that’s it!
