How and when did Gold Coast Goods come to life?
I started Gold Coast Goods with my mom a couple months after my wife and I got married in 2013. Mom and I worked together to design bowties for the dads and the guys in the wedding party. It was really fun collaborating in that way with her so I approached her about starting a business together.
I wanted to create ties for hip pacific northwest and California dudes that live in denim but need something cool to wear for weddings. I’ve always gravitated towards natural fabrics- wools, linens and cottons with nice texture and simple patterns that are easy to style with everything.
What are some of your favorite pieces for Summer/Fall 2016 weddings?
Our latest collection is called The Woods and the fabrics are light weight wools that work just as well for summer as for fall & winter. The Americana Navy tie would be perfect for a 4th of July Wedding- it has flecks of blue and red. Also the kids bowties are a new favorite- epic cuteness abounds.
Are there any trends you see as far as groom and groomsmen styles for 2016/2017?
I think men are feeling more free to experiment with color in formal dressing – hunter green, mustard and a full range of blues are my top favorites right now in suiting and accessories.
Why is Gold Coast Goods the perfect addition to a wedding party?
It’s the little details that bring a wedding’s design to life. Gold Coast is the best because we can custom source any color or print for your ties. One groom told me that the floral ties we made for him were the most talked about detail of the wedding. They make the best groomsmen gifts because our monogramming and handmade details feel very personal and special.
We think it’s so great that you do custom creations/orders for wedding parties, how does that process work?
Often times couples are looking for ties that coordinate with selected wedding colors or have a specific print in mind. They will email us about what they are looking for. I run around to all my fabric sources, select a dozen or so options and assemble a swatch board for them to select from. It’s a great option when you want several coordinating fabrics or if you want different styles of the same fabric- for instance baby bowties for the ring bearer, bowties for the wedding party, neckties for the fathers and a special pocket square for the groom. Everyone gets what they want. We personalize the ties with monogramming and offer gift boxing. We can also add special gift items with the box. Some of my favorites are the vintage tie clips that we sell, Daneson toothpicks or a mini bottle of bourbon.
