Valentine’s Day Gift DIY with RIT Dye

By February 8, 2020 No Comments

As of yesterday, we are a week out till Valentine’s Day. One of the reasons that I really like this holiday is to give people a little something to show them your love for them. That could be anyone from your neighbor, BFF, teachers, or even your instacart lady! I owe mine big time! Doing something handmade always makes an impact. Add a little DIY with the cutest cookies from Arlos Cookies, and you will making everyone’s Valentine’s Day!

I have to gush about Arlos Cookies for a minute. A friend recently sent me her Instagram page, and I was obsessed! These cookies are the cutest things around. Not only are they cute, but Luna is the sweetest person! You need to check out her website and Instagram ASAP, you can thank me later!

Let’s get to this little DIY…

I have been seeing the Japanese wrapping technique called Furoshiki, and been wanting to try it for some time! It gives gift wrapping a pretty look with a unique spin. Furoshiki is a square piece of cloth or fabric used for gift wrapping, transporting items, fashion, and home decor. You can wrap just about anything using this technique.

The choice of cloth these days is endless. I did my own mudcloth pattern using RIY Dye. It was a super fun and easy way to create your own gift wrapping. I didn’t know until I looked up color combos, RIT has SO MANY colors to create. You have a color in mind you want, they will have it. Check our their downloadable color dye chart here. See below the step by step on how I dyed the fabric and the color combos I created.

Happy Dying + Gifting!

1st, we need to dye our bandanas. If the colors that I did don’t fancy you, check our their downloadable pdf if you want to use another color scheme.

HOW TO DYE A MUDCLOTH PATTERN!

To dye, fold your fabric longwise in an accordion style. Once folded, clip clothespins at the ends. Then dip into your fabric dry, and leave in the time given below. Don’t leave and come back, you will want to watch to see how you are liking the color. Then wash under cold water, and air dry.

BEIJOS TIP: Have some Bar Keepers Friend nearby in case you get any on your counter. I might have fun into that issue a few times. Also, use a newspaper or something to cover your counters. Or do outside! This is my BFF in the kitchen. Spill anything from dye to wine, and it will scrub off with a cloth right away! Just use the liquid kind!
